City Lit Opera School runs a summer course in the beautiful Umbrian village of Scheggino. In 2015, students worked with Italian conductors Nicoletta Conti and Andrea Cappelleri and City Lit Opera’s artistic team. Events included concerts in the Painted Salon of the Villa Residenza dei Principi di Santa Croce; in the piazza at Lugnano in Teverina and in the theatre in Scheggino itself.
The first photograph on this page is of our performance of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi which was presented at the end of our 2016 summer school in both Lugnano in Teverina and the small theatre in Scheggino itself (pictured). Photo: Adam Yates.
The course includes plenty of time for swimming, rafting, walking, and eating and drinking some of Umbria’s famous wine and culinary delights.
“The City Lit summer school was a wonderful experience which aided in bettering my technique, performance and stage skills whilst of course adding to my repertoire. The opportunity to publicly perform operatic ensembles with other talented singers (often a hard experience to come by with the larger ensembles in the repertoire) and to work with coaches of such a high caliber was an invaluable learning tool.
Nicoletta, Andrea and Colin have an immense wealth of knowledge which they are eager to share with students as well as a precise understanding of the developing singer and how to tutor students (of varied ages) in all aspects of their instruments to coax the best from them in a very short period of time. The sessions with each of them were invaluable to my development and I recommend the City Lit summer school to any singer eager to learn and better themselves whilst simultaneously immersing themselves in true Italian culture in the beautiful village setting of Scheggino.”
